Palin daughter pregnant now

This really has become the Aaron Sorkin campaign.

After days of speculation on liberal blogs that Sarah Palin faked her own pregnancy and that it was actually her eldest daughter, Bristol, who had given birth this spring, McCain's campaign has moved to rebut those rumors by announcing that Bristol Palin is now pregnant.

Per Reuters, the 17-year-old is five months along with a child.

Bristol Palin and the father will keep the child and marry, Todd and Sarah Palin said in a statement.

"We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us," said the Palins. "Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that, as parents, we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We're proud of Bristol's decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support."

My colleague Lisa Lerer, who has been following McCain and Palin in recent days, notes that Bristol has been mostly off the trail since the announcement rally in Dayton Friday. Reporters were told she was taking care of the Palin's youngest child, Trig, on the bus.

Social conservatives, who are extraordinarly enthused by the selection of Palin, won't be happy about the news. But their unease will likely be mitigated by the word that the teenager will give birth and marry the father.
